Who do you want us to interview?
Moderators: snarkout, Patrick, dann
I was wondering if there were any prominent women in open source that you guys could interview; a quick search revealed this list. I'm personally interested because Linux and free software is almost exclusively a guy thing, and if we guys can get women interested, we could theoretically double the userbase. Also, a female perspective on the usability of Linux on the desktop would be interesting.

Well, KDE actually has a women site: http://women.kde.org/thetza wrote:I was wondering if there were any prominent women in open source that you guys could interview; a quick search revealed this list. I've lined up Jessica Hall for March 8th's show. She's a contributer to KDE/Plasma and has written articles for Tux Magazine. She's an avid photographer to boot as well. Back to back weeks with KDE people! Should I just block out the whole month of March for KDE?!thetza wrote:I was wondering if there were any prominent women in open source that you guys could interview; a quick search revealed this list. FYI, it looks like there's going to be a QT developer workshop in Philadelphia in May. I might have to go down there and check it out.

Awesome "catch" Pat, she had an article in TuxM. on iPods and Linux, saved me from researching the topic.Patrick wrote:I've lined up Jessica Hall for March 8th's show. She's a contributer to KDE/Plasma and has written articles for Tux Magazine.
I guess she's a big fan of digiKam then!Patrick wrote:She's an avid photographer to boot as well.
Bring it on dude! By the way, bring Aaron Seigo back on the show as we get closer to the actual release of KDE4, when he was on the show a few months ago, he sounded very positive about coming back on the show.Patrick wrote:Back to back weeks with KDE people! Good idea, and brainwash the Windows developers to develop for Linux while you're at it!Patrick wrote:FYI, it looks like there's going to be a QT developer workshop in Philadelphia in May. I might have to go down there and check it out.

I jsut thought of another one: Jeremy Allison of Samba
Samba 4 sounds interesting, it should include better support for intergrating into a Windows domain and Active Directory.......

veeery nice! We have to start thinking of intelligent questions for the crew to ask her. /me wonders if she's a vi or emacs user. Have you all seen her photography though? It really is quite amazing.Patrick wrote:I've lined up Jessica Hall for March 8th's show. She's a contributer to KDE/Plasma and has written articles for Tux Magazine. What about someone from this company?
http://www.pepper.com/products/specifications.html
I was browsing tuxmobile.org and found this vendor. Seems like a pretty neat device.

Andrew Eddie
Could try to interview Andrew Eddie or another developer from the joomla! project. Of course, you guys just interviewed Matt from Wordpress, so the fact that joomla is a CMS means it's in the same vein as Wordpress, and might want to wait on that one. I've played with joomla a bit, and it's pretty slick. Still, I feel like I need a book to figure out how to figure things out, but that's the way linux was when I first tried it...
I love Wordpress 2.0, by the way. Slick stuff.[/url]

Next month FreeBSD will be releasing 6.1, and in the first days of April 5.5 will be out, maybe it's time to get Scott Long on the show again for an update on FreeBSD, isn't it about a year since he was on the show?
And by the way, I'd still like to see Theo de Raadt of OpenBSD on the show

I think these guys have the booth next to us at the LWE. It shouldn't be a problem setting something up.Vogateer wrote:Could try to interview Andrew Eddie or another developer from the joomla! project.

Ego contemno licentia
It shouldn't be a problem talking to Scott again. He was a good guest. As for Theo, that would be an 'interesting' guest. Let me see if I can get a hold of him.Tsuroerusu wrote:Next month FreeBSD will be releasing 6.1, and in the first days of April 5.5 will be out, maybe it's time to get Scott Long on the show again for an update on FreeBSD, isn't it about a year since he was on the show?

Scott recently was on a podcast called bsdtalk (Kirk McKusick, one of the original BSD hackers from UC Berkeley, has also been on there), although I like long indepth interviews, which TLLTS, in my mind, is famous forPatrick wrote:It shouldn't be a problem talking to Scott again. By the way, Scott is working on adding journaling to the BSD UFS2 file system, that would be an interesting thing to talk to him about.
By the way Pat, Theo is in Canada!
Yet, another canadian guy, would be awesome to have him on the show.
Jordan Hubbard would also be a good one, even though he works for Apple, he is an oldschool FreeBSD guy
It's been a long time since Marcel Gagné was on the show, I think it'd be great to have him on again and talk with him about what 2006 has in store for Linux and open source.
Just to keep you busy I have one more suggestion for you: Matthias Ettrich, the founder of KDE.
He's living in Norway, so if he were to be on the show I think it would require a prerecording, because in Denmark and Norway TLLTS is on about 2:30 AM
Also, just to add another Novell guy to the "collection", how about David Raveman, the developer of XGL.

Great, another friggen Canadian!! We're still waiting for our Canadian citizenship papers to come through. Once that happens we'll be moving to Toronto, Vancouver or Ottawa.Tsuroerusu wrote:By the way Pat, Theo is in Canada!![]()

He's working for Trolltech? I thought I read recently that he left Trolltech and moved to Germany. Does he speak English? If not we may have to use your translation skills. And yes, a pre-recorded interview would be a must.Tsuroerusu wrote: Just to keep you busy I have one more suggestion for you: Matthias Ettrich, the founder of KDE.

Something I just thought of, if you're going to have Scott back on the show, maybe you could schedule it a little closer to the actual release date of FreeBSD 6.1, I think that would make it more interesting as Scott may be almost 100% sure of what is going to be in it.
Also, I wanna know when FreeBSD is going to have support for Xen in the stable branch
Well, for a dane, like me, who's pretty good at danish, norwegian is pretty easy to read, but speaking it can be troublesome. Swedish is quite the opposite. Point is: I'm good at translating english to danish when we're actually speaking, and if we're talking about text, I can manage norwegian.
But since Matthias is from Germany, he probably speaking both german, english and norwegian (He has to know a little of it), and let's just get one thing straight, I'm as good at german as you are at russian or chinese

Really? If so, Dann would have to get more bandwidth, because you would be on the Asterisk all the time.Patrick wrote:Great, another friggen Canadian!! We're still waiting for our Canadian citizenship papers to come through. Once that happens we'll be moving to Toronto, Vancouver or Ottawa.
No I think he's still in Oslo, Noway, and working for Trolltech (http://people.kde.org/matthias.html). I'm sure he speaks english, like Linus Torvalds announced his Linux kernel on usenet, so did Matthias announce the idea of the "Kool Desktop Environment", as it was called back thenPatrick wrote:He's working for Trolltech?
