Steve Jobs calls out Adobe and Flash

Post by larrydag » Thu Apr 29, 2010 12:40 pm

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/

Whether or not you like Apple or Steve Jobs he brings up all the points that we Linux and media users hate about Flash. And this is huge coming from Jobs as it will carry a lot of sway.

Yeah flash sucks but it's a bit ingenious of Steve Jobs pretending to be a champion of "open" when he's the head of one of the most closed and walled off companies in the world. When someone mentions Apple the last things I think are "Open" & "Free". Clearly he has his own agenda.

I thought that funny too when I was reading that. Clearly agenda was noted by Jobs. I also find it funny how he decrees one of the problems with Adobe is that it will be a 3rd party development kit but there isn't much open about Apple's dev kits (i believe).

You guys have summed it up much like I have.

I was pissed at Adobe for a long time and now find myself "cheering" them on?

Gosh, nothing like a common enemy to bring about uneasy alliances.

i was hoping google would also get on the "bash Flash" bandwagon and not let it on android. it would have forced a new medium, hopefully something that does not have an exploit every other week.

Well so much for cheering on Jobs. He now has told a FSF advocate to go jump in a lake because Jobs and others wants to go after open source video codecs.

How quickly does Jobs bring himself back to normality. It looks like H.264 is going to be the defacto standard if it is up to these guys. What ground to they have to go after Ogg and Theora?

This just keeps getting better and better. Apple to be investigated by FTC over anti-trust concerns due to their restricted nature of their mobile device software development.
