More power to them. Eleventh commandment: Thall shalt re-purpose.

Our favorite new tool is a heat gun to extract working parts off of old motherboards and other circuit boards ("it's not dead till I say it is") to build this and that. The better half will thank you for not going out and spending money on parts every ten minutes . If you are really into open source, a soldering iron has to be on or near your desk.

I have to get my rear to HOPE. It's been on my list of conferences to attend at some point for a couple years now. What are they charging to get in these days?

i paid $75 each for my wife and i. i'm not sure if that is a pre-registration price, or if its more at the door (or if you can even pay at the door). this will be my first time going to HOPE. but, after listing to 2600's podcast "off the hook" for about a year, i can tell they are our type of people. ;)

you know, i hear this may be the last HOPE! there has been some mention that there are plans in the works to demolish the Pennsylvania hotel for a new building. well, if that happens hopefully they can find a new venue for the conference. because, it sounds like its a popular conference with international attendees and big name speakers.

13 years ago I worked the down the street from that place. Even back then the place was considered a flea bag hotel. As long as the cockroaches and bedbugs don't infest the conference area it'll be good.

i know the area. so, i was wondering about the hotel. thanks for the heads up.

my wife and i are thinking of staying somewhere a little more uptown. we'll taxi/subway to the conference during the day. but, in the evenings we'll probably go out to eat and sleep somewhere up near the park.

The Hotel Pennsylvania is a dump, but it's our dump. I've been at every HOPE since it's been at the hotel, and haven't caught any insect borne illness - yet :D

What it has going for it is relatively inexpensive conference space in NYC and directly across the street from Penn Station and a 10 minute walk from Port Authority Bus Station. That said, I'm glad I live in NYC so I don't have to stay at the hotel.
