OOG portable player
I keep hearing on the show that one of the guys just wants a micro-light/small portable player with OGG support to listen to podcasts etc
I have a Sansa Clip and it rocks (THE Ipod killer) - This thing is tiny, weighs nothing, clips onto any part of your clothing, cheap to buy, has a great five line screen with an intuitive gui, a long batttery life and Sansa supports a great community forum for the player.
The big thing is that it has sound quality that blows ipod away. Sansa has broken through with sound quality on this player - Sansa is no longer a flash storage outfit putting out crap players.
PLUS - the thing plays every OGG file I have thrown at it. FLAC support is scheduled for the next firmware release because members of the Sansa community have been demanding it big time.
FLAC is relevant to the discussion on the TLLTS podcast about the spec you should encode your OOG podcasts with. People have different tolerances for different things. I cannot watch average quality digital TV because I cannot cope with pixelation. Most people could'nt care a stuff about minor pixelation but it irritates me. My wife cannot cope with music playback at anything less than CD quality. There is no way a person like her could listen to low quality OOG podcasts.
btw - the Clip has sound quality that makes FLAC useful for hi-fi listeners.
So....don't laugh at FLAC - some people need it!

Re: OOG portable player
I don't see ogg support specified on their website. On top of that, I did find an indication that you would need to update the firmware for ogg support. From their download page I notice that the firmware uploader is in exe format. How would you do this in linux?
Re: OOG portable player
download the zip, extract, and put the binary from inside the zip archive in the root of the Clip and restart. No need for the updater app.
Re: OOG portable player
ogg support came a few months ago with a firmware upgrade - works well!!!
Re: OOG portable player
Best Buy's Insignia house brand supports ogg (sport & pilot). Small, cheap & supports Ogg what more could you ask for!
Why be like everybody else?
Re: OOG portable player
depends on your preference for sound quality
Re: OOG portable player
I use an iAudio U3 2GB and haven't had any trouble with the .oggs I listen to.
Shows in .ogg I listen to
TLLTS
Lottalinuxlinks
GAMER
Linux Action Show
And probably a few others, but I am too lazy to look at my Bashpodder .conf file.
