Stallman relinquishing reins of GNU Emacs after 32 years

After more than three decades of work, the message from Richard Stallman, creator of the GNU Emacs text editor and keeper of its flame since 1976, couldn't possibly have been more matter of fact:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

From: Richard Stallman

Subject: Re: Looking for a new Emacs maintainer or team

Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2008 17:57:22 -0500

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Stefan and Yidong offered to take over, so I am willing to hand over Emacs development to them.

I believe that by default, it is a gui application but it can be run in the shell with the "-nw" argument.

I have one lecturer that uses emacs as a file manager, he will have a pdf on display and whenever he wants to change the pdf , he just uses emacs instead of the adobe acrobat reader open dialogue box. He has edited(edited Latex code) in emacs, pdfs on the fly and a few python scripts.

I have seen video of him at lectures in what looks to be jesus type costume. I does not take that much code to create a very simple editor program. but I will admit emacs seems to be a powerhouse in software. I use vim...... (and my own simple editor system aka moses)
