Mobile internet in New York

Morning Guys,

I will be in New York for a week over new year. What is the best way to get mobile internet for a 1 week period? I have a Motorola Milestone (Droid) so can I get a PAYG sim with mobile internet (3G) access included? Who has the best price wise and coverage wise?

Alternatively, what is the situation with open WiFi, is it common enough to not need 3G?
