Open Source Forum software
Guys,
I'm looking at setting up a forum for my girlfriends work. I've got wordpress set up for the blog and will use media wiki if she needs that but I don't know anything about forums. Any recomendations?
Thanks
Ben

Yeah, what Allix said!
Check out phpBB, although you should be religious about updating WordPress, MediaWiki and especially phpBB any time an update comes out!

Since the phpBB crew started working on phpBB 3.0, there really hasn't been many updates. I used to do updates all the time, but it's been ages since I last saw a security update for it, which usually worries me a bit. After all, after that many updates, maybe they've squeezed out all the serious security problems and haven't had to release a security update, though it's easy to see how turning your attention to the next release might make you less inclined to look over the previous version for flaws.
I haven't had much trouble with it, except that adding on "mods" has made updates a more painful process. I've had a few hunks from patches fail, and that's a hassle to deal with. Maybe they'll improve the extension architecture or something to make that sort of thing much easier.

punbb is pretty popular among friends of mine, and IIRC it powers the Arch Linux forums. Basically, hit google and you'll find a ton of options from very simple to feature rich. It's pretty much like blogging software - there are hundreds of options, but there are a few 900 lb gorillas in that bunch.
