Yes it is, but in the end this whole patent thing in the US is a big mess. The best solution, IMHO, would be to trash software patents completely and explicitly cite in the law that software ideas CAN'T be patented.

But how big is the chance of that happening? This new alliance is good for open source and free software.

Yeah IBM goodbye M$

I will support IBM Sony and Phillips by buying their products. I can't wait to be there when they close the doors at M$. (wink wink)

What the hell? Why is Sony in on this? Aren't they the ones being sued now because of a rootkit they've been installing on people's Windows boxes?

Kind of a contradictory in business practices, don't you think? At this point, I wouldn't trust much of anything coming out of Sony corporation right now.

Makes me glad that I'm not a big gamer. I'll stick to buying games like Darwinia and The Legend of Robin Hood. You know, give my money to the game developers and writers that actually bring something positive to the Linux and gaming community.

Corporations are getting just too f*cking greedy.

As far as sony goes, the last 3 games I've played on my PS2 were Silent Hill 2, 3 (which I never finished -- I lost my damn saved games moving from Cali to NM), and "The Room" (which I basically fired up, and never played). I dust off GTA3 a few times a year, too. That's about it though. I don't really have time to play games any more. I'm planning to boycott sony for quite a while though, even though they put food in my mouth for several years (My wife worked for SOE, doing web design).

ScummVM is about all I've done for quite a while -- BASS is a classic.
