About to install Asterisk and wondered if anyone could recommend a good softphone so I could make and receive calls at my desk.

Cheers

It would of helped if he had continually spoke into his microphone. You can hear Allan reminding him more than once.

yeah if you guys could run it through audacity and normalize the voices and maybe up the volume some that would be great. I listen to this on my bus and at full volume its hard to hear. (My bus is EXTREMELY load)

Use asterisk@home for your distribution. That's what I use and it's fantastic and for a soft phone grab xten-xlite.

I've been using xten for a while now and it works real well. I've recently downloaded kiax and want to give it a good whirl:
http://kiax.sourceforge.net/

It uses the IAX which is the native Asterisk audio codec. Supposedly it's better than SIP.
