Dumb suggestion

Before condemning a router as being bad please get a cable checker and make sure all cables are good. On bad cable can make a whole network look bad. A screaming nic or a router near the microwave (or something using a lot of juice) can also have the same effect. Reloading the firmware on a router to be sure it has not been hacked is a good idea also.

Actually had this situation recently. I thought that my wireless router was bad, after all it had seen its better days, and had been in service for 4+ years 24/7. However, I hooked up a brand new wireless router and had the same issues. Then I changed the cable to the router, and bingo, suddenly the whole network worked faster and better than ever. I put that old router back into the mix and it seemed to work great for about 6 more months. However, I recently had networking issues again, and decided to take out the wireless router, and put in the new one that I had standing by from the last time, and we are cooking again.
