I can't really speak of the n810. I have an n800. I have upgraded to the latest OS. I have not seen any instability at all. I stream audio, video from my home server. I don't use command line for much. I used to run kismet, but it has disappered from the repositories and I have read it does not work in 2008. I also run apt from the command line with no problem. I also use VNC to remotely control computers on my home network. Everything works locally as well as across the internet.

Nokia N800/N810! Not even close. Besides the fact that Apple just pisses me off Nokia actually encourages community involvement and 3rd party apps. Granted they different types of devices. If I had the cash I'd buy the upcoming OpenMoko phone.

While it's entirely possible the 800 and 810 are better, I haven't enjoyed my experience with the 770 at all. Put simply, IME, installing packages is a pain in the ass, using the shell on it for anything meaningful is painful (though the keyboard on the n810 probably improves this), and it's slow as hell (again, probably mitigated somewhat by either of the next 2). Its handwriting recognition is terrible and web browsing in about 50/50. A number of other complaints. It is, however, great for my 5 yo - he loves the sketch pad and I've stuck several movies/shows on it for him to watch (which is where it really shines - other than fairly regular screen tearing, it does an admirable job as a movie player). If I had to choose between my 770 and my wife's iTouch, I'd take the iTouch in a heartbeat. Again, the 800 and 810 may have improved things some, but the iTouch is just a damn nice little device, apple or not.

One of my co-workers got an iTouch. While the interface is nice and the touch screen is very responsive overall the device just doesn't move me. Maybe it's because I despise Itunes. I still think the Nokia N800/N810 is a better device. I'm pretty sure my co-workers model cost close to $400! The Nokia N810 has a full keyboard and a GPS!

My N810 arrives tomorrow. I can't wait! If the iphone/itouch was an open device it would be OK, but fat chance of that ever happening. Apple just doesn't get it. Running your favorite app on a portable device = selling more devices. I really like my Cowon D2 as well (which I will be selling as soon as my N810 arrives and is working ;) ).

If you have a N800 you might want to trade it in for a free N810 ...
