The truth about Apple fanboys/fangirls!

A new study has some humorous comments at Mac owners' expense, but reveals some serious market trends
Mac users and Mac-loving analysts often use phrases like “the halo-effect” to explain increased sales of Mac computers and OS X due to iPods and iPhones. Now, the stock market site The Street has created a humorous video analysis that offers up a new explanation for this and more commercial phenomena -- the "snob"-effect.
In the video, The Street says that on average Mac users surveyed were discovered to be “self centered, arrogant, conceited” and truly "snobs". The site says this has many real commercial ramifications, so all jokes aside, the "snob"-factor warrants serious attention.
Mac users, apparently concerned with self-image, were found to buy tooth-whitening products at a far greater rate than PC users. Mac users are also more likely to visit Starbucks, buy organic food, and own hybrid cars. Furthermore, Mac users buy on average 5 new pairs of sneakers a year, well above the average for non-users.
Mac users prefer notebooks to desktops, station wagons to SUVs. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mac users prefer "green" products, even at a higher cost. Perhaps more surprisingly, Mac users are quite law abiding and are more likely than not to pay for music -- perhaps more due to the popularity of iTunes than their moral inclinations. Mac users are more satisfied with their purchase than PC users.
Interestingly, people surveyed with an "open personality" were found to be 60% more likely to buy a Mac. Some of the more esoteric observations on Mac users character are flattering, others aren't. Mac users were found to be more liberal, socially and politically. Mac users are also less modest and more assured of their own superiority.
The interesting part about The Street's video, is that while obvious poking a bit of fun at the Mac crowd, it does illustrate some practical market trends that can be exploited for the benefit of more effective advertising and marketing to the growing crowd of Mac, iPod, and iPhone "snobs".
Hopefully there won't be too many hurt feelings, and await a possible comment from Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs.
Of course, we all knew it was the case all along!

Their snobbiness is exacerbated when they discover a fellow Mac user who doesn't share the political beliefs of the group (generally left of center). Oh, how they despise them.

I call it radioactive hypocrisy, which by my definition is when the amount of hypocrisy gets so large, that you can almost feel it radiating.
If you asked one of the followers of Apple, he or she would very likely label those who dares to blasphemy the divine creations of the alwise and almighty Steve, as heretics!

The level of hostility and bigotry coming from the Linux crowd that is directed at the Apple community, in general, I find to be far more irritating. Mac users can be smug, but hardcore Linux fanatics suffer from the same superiority complex.

If you're referring to me, might I add that I was trying to make fun of the people who claim that Apple is the most perfect thing in the world, through a big load of sarcasm. People are free to have whatever opinion that they want, but that doesn't make it less dumb, which is why I despise and ridicule (This specifically, you can see some of in my earlier post) people, who think that Denmark should execute the painter of those (in)famous drawings of the prophet Mohammed.

I agree, and I am glad that does not apply to me
I run Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, would like to try NetBSD at some point, and would like to use OpenSolaris when it's possible without any proprietary stuff. Am I a "Linux fanatic", even though I use other things (I am not claiming that you said or implied that I am, it's just a rhetorical question) ? I'll leave that up to you to decide.

I should have said open source. I meant any FOSS user who thinks they are superior to Apple users simply because they are more knowledgeable about computers. The "smugness" that Linux people talk about when referring to Apple users can be flipped right around on them.

Well, glad to know that, because I am not one of those people!
Jordan Hubbard, the founder of FreeBSD, works for Apple, and I'm confident he uses Mac OS X, that guy knows an infinite more about computers than I ever will, I won't ever hesitate to admit that!

Apple gave up the power pc platform for intel after years of denouncing intel. .Now that Apple brags about mswindoze and linux can run on their? platform, Why not have a little fun? Now that bsd has a better way to install apps, one could always convert to BSD and even make things more interesting..

The ports system have been around for many many years, it works pretty well. FreeBSD have also had a packages system for many years, you just run something like "pkg_add -r apache", and it downloads a binary package of Apache including any dependencies that might be required.

Yeah but those packages are old and outdated. If you want the newest stuff you have to use the ports tree. There's really no way of getting around compiling on FreeBSD unless you don't want newer software.

I was listening to the last bsd podcast (BSD Talk 141) and it sounds like something new is on the horizon. I do not know anything about linux or bsd, but it seems like they used a different name for the supposedly new or updated package manager..
