TLLTS Folding@Home Team

I decided to start up a TLLTS protein folding team that I was hoping all you guys would join. In a nutshell, it's a distributed computing application that uses unused CPU cycles on your computer to try and help cure diseases like Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Parkinson's. All that is required is that you run a little program in the background.

The team number is 68208, so if you decide to help out, run "./FAH504-Linux.exe -config" and then add in the team ID along with any other preferences.

And in case you were wondering, FAH is mostly open-source, although the core is closed in order to protect scientific integrity.

if I put that on my mythtv box/asterisk server will that hinder performance when I record shows or make or receive phone calls?

Nope I have been running on my main machine and work machine and you will not notice any performance decrease thanks the linux's great scheduler, it sets it to a very low priority.

I have been running it for a while, since DLTV mentioned it first, I switched from their team to TLLTS but it really doesn't matter what team I am on so long as my work units get sent in I know I am helping.

Thanks for joining. There are alot of geeks around here with alot of computing power. It seemed like kind of a cool idea to start our own team.

And no, there is no noticeable performance decrease. FAH won't take over your system, it just uses CPU cycles that would otherwise go to waste. I've been successfully running it on my desktop and laptop for a few months now.

OK, I joined in the fun. As you might imagine, I have a couple machines I can throw at the project when they are not busy. Oddly, though, I checked the team stats page and it says there aren't any (stats that is)???

I have a few computers that I will add to the team.

It looks like Stanford's servers are having some problems, so if your work unit fails to upload, just wait for them to sort things out. I guess with the massive number of PS3s running FAH, their infrastructure couldn't handle the load.

Is anyone else getting an error similar to this that keeps repeating in the log?

Code: Select all

[05:38:45] + Attempting to get work packet
[05:38:46] - Connecting to assignment server
[05:38:46] - Successful: assigned to (0.0.0.0).
[05:38:46] + News From Folding@Home: Welcome to Folding@Home
[05:38:46] Work Unit has an invalid address.
[05:38:46] - Error: Attempt #12 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
             Waiting before retry.
No other work to do? Has everything possible been folded?!

EDIT: Ok I spoke too soon it is happening again after I completed a small workload.

I just set it up on my two boxes but I'm getting that "..no other work to do." error right now.

edit: well, i've had them on all day and neither have anything  .

edit2: ok, i reconfigured my client to accept large work units and now its working fine.
