Hi there,

A quick question for Patrick here. Heard you talking about the headset you use for skype - I'm assuming you run this under Linux. Is it just a case of plug it in and go or was there a good amount of configuring required? The reason I ask is that on the skype site there is an orange coloured USB phone that the manufacturers are saying they will bring out linux drivers for so you can use the buttons on it to dial and such and I'm debating whether to hang fire for the drivers (I'm not buying it UNTIL they get released - I've heard the "We have plans to support Linux in the near future" line before) or whether to get the headset you mentioned. The closest they have here in the U.K. is the 30 model, not the 300 but they look about the same.
Oh yeah and great show last ngiht guys - sorry I cant attend live now due to uni commitments.

I used the headset on my MythTV box which runs Fedora Core3. There was no configuring required. I plugged it in and it was automatically detected on bootup. Opened up skype and went to options and selected headsets. It shows up as /dev/dsp1. There was an article in the February issue of Linux Magazine detailing using this headset with skype. It works great in audacity as well. I got the headset from newegg for $35:

Thanks for the post-back Patrick. Just went and bought an iRiver - see the other thread - and so this might have to wait now. I'm also interested in a cordless phone for Skype. Made a few calls with Skypeout too recently and the quality of these has been a little variable but in all cases manageable.

FYI, the headset worked well on Dans Mac laptop running Ubuntu.

My friend is running Ubuntu, and he cannot get his Logitech USB Headset to work at all :/

Did you have to install any drivers or configure anything? :S

Btw, I'm using a Plantronics USB Header and it works fine out-the-box.

I had to restart hotplug for mine to get recognized. Then it gets set up as the second sound device so you want to run alsamixer -c 1 (0 is the first device).

The module is usb_audio. That should get loaded when hotplug is restarted.
