This is just plain sad. I can't believe it all comes down to DRM. They must have a bunch of RIAA lawyers hovering over them like hawks waiting to prounce.

So he rags on netflix for the entire article. Then at the end surmises that it's probably not even their decision to make.

Its always about the DRM. From a technical standpoint there is no obstacle to a Linux client. Novell did all the work for them. Supposedly an Android app is in the works. Perhaps running it in a VM or some kind of hack can be implemented to get it working on a regular linux system. My blu-ray player has Netflix capability and I bet it runs Linux under the hood.

I know it stinks. Especially since I would love to run netflix on a netbook or such.
However, as long as it works on the PS3 or the kids Wii, it's really not a big thing for us in our house.

While it stinks that I can not integrate this into mythtv, I won't loose my cool over it.

Hmm... Perhaps on one of the upcoming android tablets? That would be sweet with a 4G connection in the car.... hmmmmm....

You know what I find interesting? Most of the people that do try and crack DRM for the sake of piracy seem to be doing this on Windows PCs. I'm sure this isn't 100% the case, but since Windows is alleged to hold 90% of the desktop market (as most Windows fanboys will claim), it can only be assumed that Windows is the platform of choice to circumvent DRM for the reasons the Netflix representative gives in reference to Linux. These companies (Microsoft, etc.) have some deep pockets to perpetuate the lies about Linux and other open source operating systems. It's sickening.
