Mythbuntu and PVR1212

Post by jstgtpaid » Thu Mar 04, 2010 7:59 pm

Mythbuntu doesn't appear to be activating my PVR1212 and I am not sure where to start looking to troubleshoot.

When I activate the mythtvfrontend, then select watchtv, it takes me to a please wait message then 10 seconds later it returns to the menu. I notice that it does not activate the PVR but I get no other feedback...

When I type cat /dev/video1 > test.mpg from the terminal it activates the PVR 1212 and records. I am able to play the test.mpg file in movie player.

Where should I look to determine why mythbuntu doesn't activate the PVR?

From the wiki:
1. do a test recording outside of Myth: cat /dev/video1 > test.mpg, if successful proceed to the next step
2. Run mythtv-setup, and enter option 2, Capture Cards.
3. Add a new capture card. When prompted, select "H.264 Encoder Card (HD-PVR)" as the card type. Set the /dev/video node to the number of your HD-PVR. Finish adding the new capture card. You can also set the audio input on this screen.
4. Enter option 3, "Video Sources." Set up a video source for your HD-PVR's tuner as described in the manual.
5. Enter option 4, "Input Connections." Connect the video source to the appropriate input on the HD-PVR. Important Note: You must set a channel change script for the HD-PVR to work properly. If you don't care about channel changes, you can set it to /bin/true, but there absolutely must be a channel change script defined. Important Note 2: You must leave Preset tuner to channel empty or LiveTV and channel changes will not work.

Excellent... I still have a ways to go... That got me a video feed but no audio. In addition, the video is really bad; lots of distortion lines.

I also have to setup the LIRC stuff for the HDPRV. I noticed that they now have instructions for how to do it with mythbuntu...

But I will investigate that stuff before I bug ya again! Thanks for your help...

--Update--
I am not going to try and use the PVR1212 for IR blasting. It doesn't sound stable enough for me, so I am going with a different IR blaster solution.

The graphic quality was not acceptable so I went out and purchased a GT220 Nvidia card and updated all the drivers to the 195 series. The graphics are MUCH better now. However, the audio was not working via HDMI for the GT220 card.

I found a solution for that here that works for the GT210, GT220 and GT240.

From reading the forum threads on HDMI and the GT220, I believe that it will eventually make it into the upstream code, so these patches would no longer be needed.

I am so close to getting everything up and running now! It is very exciting.
