Re: Mumble VOIP
We use mumble for a video gaming series I do with some people on YouTube. It works great for gaming and non gaming. Iain has already mentioned some great points about it. One thing to add, when your recording a conference you can record everyone to a single audio file, or split each person into thei...

Re: Error message... Is this Important?
Going to resurrect this thread. I installed the certificate so Chrome would stop complaining. But the problem is the certificate is for thelinuxlink.net and when I log in here I get redirected by the forum to www.thelinuxlink.net which throws up the warning again about the certificate. If I have log...

Re: Logitech diNovo Mini HTPC Keyboard
I know this is an older post, but how are you liking the dinovo? I am going to build a HTPC soon and was curious about the dinovo. What kind of range do you get with it? I saw reviews on egghead and some people claimed 6 feet or less. The HTPC will probably be 15 feet or so from the couch in my setu...

Re: any consensus on which remote works best out of the box ?
I bought one of these for my 360. Not sure if it is compatible with the PC MCE remotes, but it is dirt cheap. Works great with my 360.

What do you guys think of Jupiter Broadcasting (LAS)
Curious what you guys think of the Linux Action Show? I remember when TLLTS had them on when they were Mac guys going Linux. Listened to a few LAS's and then gave up on it. Tried them again later when they were in video too, and still didn't care for it. The over the top voices when they open the sh...

Well do a Google search and see what you find. The top hit for me is. http://www.mikedipetrillo.com/mikedvirtualization/2009/04/microsoft-buys-vmware-for-25-billion.html Check out the date on the post, the guy even mentions April fools. No recent news sites have anything related to this. The 2.5 bil...

I think the part about Microsoft buying VMware is false. Someone from VMware made up that story as an April fools joke last April.

Upcoming HDHomeRun with cable card support in the pipeline
I've been a big fan of the HDHomeRun for a few years now. Rock solid and works great. Looks like at CES Silicondust is going to announce a new HDHomeRun that supports cable cards. Questions remain on if this is going to be Windows only. Hope it isn't. Silicondust have always been Linux friendly, so ...

Re: Best Capture Device for OTA?
Thats my fault. I had a script running that takes a recorded file (once the recording stops) and converts it down to a lower rez and bit rate for syncing to my Droid. The file I sent you by accident was one the script had created as a temp file. It muxes it into a video and audio stream, and I accid...

Re: Best Capture Device for OTA?
Well those threads talk about older versions than the current version. I am using 20091024 version now. I have upgraded off and on during the years I have had it. I don't check often for updates, but when I notice one I do it. I have probably done 3-4 updates over the couple years I have had it. A n...

Re: Best Capture Device for OTA?
Just noted your last question.
Your CPU is fine for the HDHomeRun since you are doing no encoding at all. Just saving the live stream. Should be the same issue with the Hauppauge also.
I have used a similar PC with mine to record two HD streams while watching a third pre-recorded HD stream.

Re: Best Capture Device for OTA?
Not sure I follow your comments on the HDHomeRun. Especially if all you want is OTA reception. I have found the tuners on it to be excellent (from a signal strength standpoint). Also all the OTA broadcasts are MPEG2 streams by default by the Networks. The HDHomeRun just saves that stream to disk. So...

Re: Seeking advice: downgrading my TV service
Or just buy a cheap little switch and connect it to the line coming from your router to where the TV is, and then connect the hdhomerun and PC to the switch also.
Something like this for $10

Re: Seeking advice: downgrading my TV service
The HDhomerun has been going for $99 lately (single tuner versions). Does a great job as an OTA tuner. Gives you dual tuners too for $150 version. Works great with MythTV also.
Newegg and bestbuy have it for $99.
