Re: Running 2 old pc's 24/7 bad?
With the file server/Asterisk server, I have the SVN version of Asterisk 1.4 running on Slackware 12. I have a 500GB external SATA drive connected to a SATA card in the desktop as my storage. I have it so you have to use ssh to log in to the desktop to get anything on it. I am not sure on how to str...

Re: Running 2 old pc's 24/7 bad?
I keep forgetting to buy that thing. Now I have to figure out how to get the laptop not to heat up real bad when I close the lid of it. Otherwise I am going to have to remove the screen

Running 2 old pc's 24/7 bad?
I already have an old 500mhz desktop running 24/7 as my file server and asterisk server. I want to use an old 650mhz laptop as a workstation running 24/7 as well. I am going to hook up a LCD monitor to the laptop to use instead of the laptop screen. Will it suck up a lot of electricity if I run 2 pc...

I want to replace my PDA/cellphone with something that is just like this N810. Although my phone has EVDO and WiFi, the only thing I use my EVDO for is checking my email. I am usually in a place that has WiFi so I don't need my phone for internet access. If I need access, i'm sure I can use my new p...

I found a fix for my audio issue on the Ubuntu forums. So now the only thing that bugs me is the WLAN light flashing. In Vista, it was a solid light. Now it flashes. It's not that bad. I know it will bug me though. So far everything that I do on a regular basis works. All my hardware works too so fa...

I was waiting for Ubuntu 7.10 to be released to install on my Vaio but if Debian is just like Ubuntu except without all the wizards and customization that Ubuntu does, should I just install Debian testing? I'm sure if I can't figure out how to get a piece of hardware to work I can find the info onli...

Vista woes....going back to Ubuntu
I recently bought a new Sony Vaio VGN-C250N/B and its a very nice laptop. I just wish Vista wasn't a pile of crap. The sad part about all this besides me still running windows on this laptop is that Sony did not release any drivers for my laptop if I wanted to move back to XP!!! I'm not sure if Vist...

I forgot what command it was to have Linux see the HD for use. With the help of the binrev forums, I was able to remember the command to use to "mount" the drive. I can't believe I forgot that one. Ubuntu is makes things easy for you but when you go back to a "do-it-yourself" Distro, you tend to be ...

Seagate 500GB eSATA and Slackware 11.0
I am trying to get this external SATA hard drive to work in Slackware 11.0. Slackware sees the promise sata card that comes with the HD. I just need to figure out how to get Slack to see the HD so i can format it to use. I'm not sure how to go about it. I tried looking for it using KDE and Konqueror...

Ok. I did another complete install of Kubuntu. This time, I had it connected wired when I was installing. After the install and doing the update, I rebooted the laptop. After it rebooted, I went into system settings > network settings. I changed the default route to eth1 instead of eth0. I then chan...
