Re: MythTV Backup
If all you want to do is add video files to the recordings database then http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Myth.rebuilddb.pl or http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Find_orphans.py might be what you're looking for. I suggest testing it out first by trying to add one or a few video files to your existing recordings d...

Re: MythTV Backup
In archlinux, the mythtv database files are located in /var/lib/mysql If you have mysql's binary logs enabled (in archlinux it is enabled by default, I think), then the binary logs are also located in /var/lib/mysql Some configuration settings are located in ~/.mythtv I don't use an infrared remote ...

MythTV v0.25 podcast topic suggestion
Now that MythTV v0.25 is released, will mythtvcast be interviewing someone from MythTV? If you will interview someone from MythTV, please discuss details about MythTV's relationship with and use of mysql. Which files contain the database? How to back up the database? How often to back up the databas...

SSD and Linux
Does anyone run Linux on an SSD? I use archlinux and followed the Arch Wiki on SSD to set up the heads, sectors, change the scheduler, enable trim with the discard option using ext4 filesystem. I use an HDD for /var. Does anyone use an SSD for /var? If so, how has it worked out? Currently I have / a...

Re: Free space
I've never used Myth Web but in mythfrontend examine Setup --> TV Settings --> General There is a screen for autoexpire settings. You can also delete recordings by going to System Status --> Autoexpire Select a recording, press enter (I think it's enter, might be delete), and you will have the optio...

Re: Recent Changes
To prevent a pacakge from being upgraded edit /etc/pacman.conf, uncomment the Ignorepkg line and list the package you do not want upgraded. For example, IgnorePkg = mysql libmysqlclient mysql-clients There is excellent info about pacman in the ArchWiki. Much of what I've learned about linux is from ...

Re: Recent Changes
The original problem was that archlinux updated mysql from 5.1 to 5.5. It wasn't a mythtv update. I don't use LinHES (based on Arch), which might have a graphical update program. IIRC, mythbuntu has a Mythbuntu Control Center from which you can update or you can use the regular ubuntu update graphic...

Re: Recent Changes
I figured it out after I tried to optimize the database hoping that would fix the mysql 5.1 database and make it compatible with 5.5 after running mysql_upgrade didn't work. The optimize failed. So I tried to restore an old database, which failed. Then I tried dropping the entire database. Now I kno...

Re: Recent Changes
The problem was with the database. When upgrading from mysql 5.1 to 5.5, the 5.1 database would not work. I ended up dropping the database, downgrading mysql (and mysql-clients and libmysqlclient) back to 5.1, updating the firmware on the HVR-2250, and then running mythtv-setup again to setup the tu...

Re: Recent Changes
Yes, skipping. I don't mean speeding up playback. I use Hauppauge HVR-2250 for the tuner.. WNBC is 1080i but mythfrontend doesn't hang with those recordings. Sometimes recordings from WABC (720p) hang sometimes not. I only record OTA. I don't use cable, satellite, or FIOS TV.

Minimyth
Has anyone used http://www.minimyth.org? Minimyth is a small linux distro for a slave backend or a frontend system. Minimyth never gets mentioned among mythtv-specific linux distros. I briefly tried testing it but I haven't got it working yet.

Re: Recent Changes
I've been using MythTV 0.24 for about a month on archlinux (combined frontend/backend). Generally, it is better than 0.23 although when playing some recordings, mostly from CBS, the MythTV internal player will hang when fast forwarding or rewinding. I have to kill mythfrontend and restart it.

Re: Episode 23 - Dan's plans
Other media streaming software for linux include: PS3mediaserver (written in java) Mediatomb (partially alive project) FUPPES (might be a dead project) PS3mediaserver works fairly well. It does transcoding but sometimes it does not work since the PS3 is extremely picky about what it will accept and ...

Re: any consensus on which remote works best out of the box ?
The Sony PS3 bluetooth remote works so long as you have bluetooth in your frontend computer. I followed the instructions on the MythTV Wiki which refers to the XBMC wiki . BTW, how do you like the HVR-2250? The card works but I can't get the kernel modules to load quickly. It takes about 15 seconds ...
