Re: SimplicITy is a Linux PC for the elderly
My stepgrandpa uses a pc like this ( http://www.simpc.com ) and he never used a pc before, but now he even does online banking, so I think it's a pretty good idea. They used Gentoo as the base os and it works lovely. I don't think he'd use a pc if this one wasn't out there, it would have been too bi...

Re: MS patents "sudo",,,,,
Exactly, they may try to put on sheep's clothing, but when something like this happens it's immediately obvious where their intentions really lie. There's been a lot of discussion about ms trying to be nicer to the floss community, but their business model simply doesn't allow them to be any shade o...

Re: MS patents "sudo",,,,,
Sheesh, the common things you're able to patent never stop amazing me. I really hate software patents and all companies that make a business strategy of collecting and enforcing them...

Re: Raising more Linux women by using epigenetics
My girls excell at math and science consistently. They may not do as well in spelling, handwriting, or grammar. That is not to say they are not doing well there, but their math skills seem to be better. Quite the opposite of my wife, which is interesting. Yeah, it's really interesting how such thin...

Re: 'Breeding' more Linux women by using epigenetics
Did not Adolph try something like that? I applaud women who take up technical (as well as any other) careers, but not everyone is meant to do it no matter how much you push it, I have spent too much time doing tech support with the common sense challenged people. I didn't mean it in such a 'boys fr...

Raising more Linux women by using epigenetics
You all probably heard about Mark Shuttleworth making some sexist remark, but I won't talk about that, however, it did make me think. How can we make more women interested in Linux? I saw this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBqfqcm_BCU , and it describes how we can transform our da...

Re: Doug McIlroy interview in ep. 321
I couldn't agree more. Very nice! Reminds me of one of my customers who wanted a quotation for an intranet solution, but he only wanted to work with 'proven technology'. He meant: Windows Server. I should let him listen to that part, it can't get more proven than Unix

show 321, where to find "distro from text"
Hiya everybody,
I listened to episode 321 and especially the part about the 'distro from text' caught my attention. I'd really like to transform a standard slackware install to serve my audio-editing-needs. Does anybody know the url where I can find the tutorials, or the guy's blog?
Thanks,
Jelle
