N800 OS2008 "released"

I'm sure many of you N800 owners were waiting for the OS2008 release. It turns out that people have figured out a way to get into the Nokia website and download the N810 version of the firmware. I followed the procedure. Worked flawlessly and now my N800 is rocking OS2008. It seems to be much faster...

Flash usage in GMail

Just heard last night's show where Linc talked about his issues with Flash and GMail. AFAIK, GMail uses Flash only for the chat sound notifications in case you aren't in the GMail window. I think that if you just disable the chat feature in GMail, there won't be any Flash involved. Worth a try.

That would definitely be very cool. I would really like to see a histogram of mouse clicks throughout my work day. When I'm doing actual work, It's just the keyboard that works hard. When I'm goofing off, I'm clicking around in the browser or my email client. :-)

N800 with MythTV

So, to my surprise, I discovered yesterday that the UPNP feature of MythTV is working without any tinkering. I was playing with my N800 and I was surprised to find the Myth server appear both in the file manager and the media player. Playing audio is not an issue, other than the time it takes to pop...

This is a question to Allan and Linc and others who are using 770-encode.pl to encode video for Nokia N800. I've tried the script on a couple of different videos -- though not from MythTV, but xvids that I downloaded from not-so-legit sources. The video looks fine but the audio is completely screwed...

[Slightly OT but I didn't want to start another thread]

Where did you get your N800 from? I'm looking at the usual places, buy.com and amazon.com. Amazon is slightly cheaper but their free shipping is really slow these days. Any other sources that you recommend?

Patrick and Robert discussed Logitech's wireless bridge in ep. 170 of DL TV: http://dl.tv/2007/05/episode_170_microsoft_surface.php It's no longer in production, but you should be able to get it for cheap. The bandwidth isn't great, but it should be good enough for casual use (though I know that Lin...

I've been thinking about the MS patent issue quite a bit recently. I don't want to sound like I'm whoring for page views, but I think this might be of interest: http://gymnasmata.wordpress.com/2007/05/15/microsoft-claims-patent-infringement-or-if-you-cant-beat-em-scare-em/ http://gymnasmata.wordpres...

I have been using Fon for over a year now. I started using it when they were giving away Linksys routers with a modified DD-WRT software. Overall, my experience hasn't been too bad. The software is somewhat flaky and it wouldn't let me use my own wi-fi without first firing up the browser and logging...

Distributed shell

The guys interviewed someone a long time back (about a year ago) who created an infrastructure for running shell commands on multiple machines at the same time. Does anyone remember what the name of the project was? Are there any other similar tools that you can recommend.

Thanks.

I know that mpg123, and possibly ogg123 have the option of doing time stretch on the command line. You can get their output on stdout and perhaps pipe it to lame to reencode it.

I have just one SATA drive and the graphics card is a passively cooled NVidia FX5200 which does not generate too much heat, especially when I'm not doing anything other than displaying the Myth menu on it. As for the power supply fan, it is a fairly new power supply although it is a cheapass thing (...

Overheating

I've been having overheating problems with my myth box lately. It's an AMD 64 3200+ machine. A few months ago, I switched the CPU fan and put in a Zalman quiet fan because the cheapass $15 fan was too loud for my bedroom. That thing worked well for about a month, even when I turned the fan speed all...

The old intro was loud, but it wasn't painfully loud. Even in the new intro, everything is ok except the "Tech Show!" cheer (which I assume was recorded at the Ohio Linuxfest). If Dann can turn down the volume on that a little bit, it would be great!

This one is web based and supports RSS. http://www.torrentflux.com/ I've used it. It works well and since its for your mythbox you most likely already have mysql and apache installed. I tried out Torrentflux. This does everything that I want and is very easy to setup with an existing myth installat...
