Re: What do you want from TLLTS year 7

I echo much of what greggh said, plus I'd also like to see you guys invite some of the guests you had on three years ago on the show for a new talk. Plus more "stories" from Dann would be much welcomed! :P

Re: Ms admits Linux taking a byte out of their profits.

Competing commercial software products, including variants of Unix, are supplied by competitors such as Apple, Canonical, and Red Hat. Apple takes an integrated approach to the PC experience and has made inroads in share, particularly in the U.S. and in the consumer segment. The Linux operating sys...

Re: OSNews: Mono Part of Debian's Default Desktop in Squeeze?

I think I'll load Gnote and kill Tomboy and Mono off the machine. Gnote is actually a C++ port of Tomboy, done by guy who used to work for Novell but was laid off, *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*. On a side note, Fedora 12 will be including Gnote by default instead of Tomboy to entirely remove Mono f...

Re: Congrats on episode 300

Definitely listen to episode 300, the interview with Ted Ts'o was great. Also, episode 293 has an interview with Aaron Seigo. That's the two that immediately came to my mind.

Re: Free Software becomes European Election issue

I love how the article, after just TWO sentences, has totally contradicted itself! With the launch of the Free Software Pact initiative the European Elections now have free software as an issue for candidates. The initiative will ask those standing for election to support free software in the UK .

Re: France Approves Crackdown on Internet Piracy

You know, I find it extremely funny, and even a bit sad that you lash out against others when you yourself CLEARLY have absolutely no idea what the hell you're talking about! The socialists and communists actually defeated this bill last month ( France Rejects 3 Strikes Anti-Piracy Law ), because o...

Re: France Approves Crackdown on Internet Piracy

How long before other countries follow suit? My belief is, not long. Which is why the European Parliament passed amendments to it's version of a new EU telecom package that says that users can't be denied service without a prior ruling from judicial authorities. This is not yet law, now the parliam...

Re: MPAA suggests teachers videotape TVs instead of ripping DVDs

You have it all wrong, as always. You're looking for "kooky" conspiracy theories and "the man putting the shackles on." Greggh and all you other tin foil hat wannabes let's get it correct. The MPAA is not saying you cannot rip dvds with what they are showing here. You completely mis-understood. The...

Re: ESR once again attacking the GPL

http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=928 This is like the third article in the past two month that I've read where ESR attacks the need for the GPL. I'm really starting to not like this guy. What I think is extremely ironic is that ESR's arguments are remarkably similar to those lazzez-faire economists who ar...

You mean Mandriva?

I checked where my country, Denmark, is on the list ,and we're number 10, seems very high for a Microsoft colony like us.

Re: Oracle to buy Sun in $7.4 billion deal

MySQL could always fork, and we have PostgreSQL anyways which from what I hear has more features anyways. It has already sort of forked, after Michael Widenius (Monty) left Sun, he's started something he calls MariaDB: "MariaDB is a community developed branch of the MySQL database that uses the Mar...

Re: ABI Research :2012 Linux to out number Windows on Netbooks

it runs great on little ram and slower machines. Yeah, a friend of mine and I once ran it on a machine with 32 MB of RAM, took forever to boot, but once it ran, it was pretty usable. It just boggles my mind how Microsoft can create something like Windows 2000 and screw it up so bad that they end up...

Re: Pirates found guilty - 1 year jail - must pay $3.6 Mil

Will be interesting to follow this as it gets appealed. If I was a witness or whatever, I'd put a laptop before the judge and have him go to Google and search for something like: spider man 3 torrent But of course Google ain't gonna get dragged to court over that, nor are they gonna get censored, oh...
