Can you play encrypted DVDs on the z60m? My t43 goes batshit when I try - unencrypted are fine, though. I tried it once when I installed Kubuntu, but I didn't have success. Honestly, playing DVDs on the notebook isn't important to me. I've got a DVD player for each TV in the house, and if I'm trave...

I'm a Kubuntu 6.06 nut at the moment on my Z60m. This is my primary computer. My MythTV box hasn't been finalized yet, as I've not yet been able to successfully use Fedora, (k/x)ubuntu, Gentoo, Slackware, etc... on it. Once I figure out the issues, I'm hoping it'll be something Debian based (but I'm...

I'll agree with the Thinkpad endorsment. I've had my Z60m for a few months now, and I'm very happy with it.

Running Kubuntu Dapper from day 3 (tried other distros first), no problems found that weren't easily fixed with a google search or two.

I've just recently retired a Pentium 200 MHz with 32 MB, that was running as a print server for my HP Deskjet 1000C. This is the software information. It's a floppy based setup. I know... 32 MB is over kill for the setup, but that's what I had before blowing away Win95 on it. The reason for retireme...

This really just follows my own set of Murphy's Laws. I just bought a Thinkpad!!! I don't see it any differnet than before however, as I've never been able to find a thinkpad configured for sale with a Linux distro pre-installed.

Maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

I used a 5.10 Ubuntu CD to clean install on my new laptop, then added the kubuntu-desktop option.

After rebooting, I logged into a console, and performed a dist-upgrade.

2 hours or so later (over a wifi connection), I'm running a Kubuntu Dapper setup.

I've used SuSE and Slackware most recently, and have enjoyed each of them. I've used mainly the KDE interface, but I have also experimented with Fluxbox, and do like it, when I can get the menu configured correctly. Stable would be wonderful, but I'm not afriad to work with something a little more r...

If all goes as expected, I'll be purchasing a Levono Z60m Thinkpad Model 2529E6U . Looking forward to putting Slackware or Kubuntu on it. Okay - I got the PC on Tuesday morning, and my question to all of you is, what distro do you recommend? I've downloaded the current Debian Stable DVDs, a copy of...

How about having the end user execute a batch file, containing: ipconfig /all X:\%COMPUTERNAME%.txt where X: is a shared network location (could be mapped within the batch file if not already present), and %COMPUTERNAME% is a standard system variable of the "computername". I think that will get you ...

To the best of my knowledge, living in Canada, I'm not breaking the law by watching a DVD on a non-Windows or non-Macintosh OS. Until that changes, I won't pay for a solution created to be legal for one part of the world, unless it is far superior to any free solution I can find on the internet.

Thanks for your input - you've each basically confirmed what I already had thought. Pat's recommendation of using the LiveCD(s) before purchase was in my mind already. I've already experienced difficulties with my current Dell SmartStep 200N notebook, and it's modem, but I have a PCMCIA 33.6 modem t...

You're looking to buy a new notebook...

Hey everyone! Looking for some information before I slap down cash on a new notebook computer. Any and all information you can provide will be great. My employer includes in the benifits package, an interest free loan for PC / Notebook purchases, as long as the computer meets certain requirements. T...

CptnO,

I found this link in the Kanotix forums. It helped me greatly, getting the wifi adapter 'remembered' each time.

The link goes to the specific post that did the grunt work, but the rest of the thread may also be helpful for you.
