Re: Hot-Linc alpha 2 released

Just to necrothread here for a bit (but with good reason), Hot-Linc will build in Fedora 20. You need to install gtk+ and gtk+devel, as well as gdk-pixbuf2-devel. Then, you need to grab yourself a copy of the original HotBabe source and copy the CFLAGS and LIBS lines from HotBabe's Makefile over to ...

Re: Gnome 3... what the hey... not bad.

Well, a bit of an update since 3.2 is the current version out. I've tried to like it as much as possible, really I did. However, I still find that it gets in my way of doing things. Because of this, I've moved over to Xfce for GTK-based desktop love. I still use KDE from time to time, but it can be ...

Re: answer to gnome3 / unity woes

If you prefer a more conventional desktop and neither Xfce, LXDE, or KDE meet your needs, check out MATE Desktop Environment or Cinnamon.

Re: Gnome 3... what the hey... not bad.

It's grown on me as well. I had played with it during the alpha stages and I believed it had potential. It still does, without a doubt, and it's vastly improved from when I first used it, but there are still some rough edges. This doesn't surprise me, and I'm sure that they'll polish it up some more...

Re: Linux tablets??

There was a project called Multi-pointer X (MPX) that allowed for multiple mouse input. AFAICT, it's been implemented natively in Xorg and it's just a matter of loading the module for it. That might make possible some rudimentary multitouch gestures on older x86 tablets. http://www.x.org/wiki/Develo...

Re: Germany- 10,000 to go to Ubuntu Linux

I saw this and found it interesting given that they recently went back to Windows on another government project. Seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I hope this doesn't end up like that other project, though.

Re: Which desktop/distro do you use?

My order of greatness starting from high to low used to be the following: Slackware, Ubuntu, Debian. This has changed in recent years. It is now the following starting from high to low: Slackware, Arch, Fedora, Debian, Linux Mint. Even though the ones listed as low are where they are, that doesn't m...

Re: Do you set your system clock to UTC

as far aa i know, you should set to UTC only if you don't have a windows at dual-boot. by UTC i mean the BIOS clock, and linux byitself (through the timezone settings it has) do the convrtion to the local time. This is how I have it done since I'd stopped dual-booting on my PCs. The only other mach...

Re: Chrome/Chromium

Have only used C once or twice. In going back and looking at the settings, you can actually choose the search engine and are not limited to the ones suggested. I stand corrected on that. Why would you not want a search engine? is what your asking. I would not want one in certain kiosk set ups. For ...

Re: Chrome/Chromium

I mainly use Chrome now, although I go back to Firefox occasionally for special needs. I switched mainly for the speed increase. It just loads faster on my old hardware. By the way, there is a full toolbar in Chrome/Chromium. You just have to activate it; click on the wrench - then go to the tools ...

Re: Suggestions on a Linksys WRT54G

The wrt54g is slower than some of the other routers on the market now. I ran tomato and dd-wrt on the wrt54gl and ended up with dd-wrt. Tomato was problematic. I have not looked at tomato lately though, Hope that helps... I've been running Tomato for a couple of years now and it's been fine. No wei...

Re: Chrome/Chromium

I'm using Chromium now as my primary browser, but I still use Firefox for some things. Been playing around with 4.0b7 in Linux and it's pretty good performance-wise. Curious to see how good it is once it's final. It might lure me back, but it would have to be significantly better than Chromium. As f...

Re: What are your favorite science fiction movies?

Not a complete list and in no order, but some of the ones I enjoy: - Alien - Aliens - 2001: a space odyssey - Tron - Star Wars (Episodes 4-6) - Star Trek (TOS crew. All except Final Frontier which I've never seen but still want to despite its reputation.) - Star Trek - The Matrix (the first one only...
