CentOS: lost iptables rules

Hi all! I know there are a few people here that use CentOS professionally so here it goes: Has anybody had their /etc/sysconfig/iptables.save rewritten by system-config-securitylevel but without running system-config-securitylevel ? This just happened today on one my servers. Currently the /...

Re: How do you respond in emails?

I always prefer inline and I strip parts when the message is getting too big.

On this topic also see this:

Re: <control><alt>backspace

It seems this is already done on Fedora too: Some people are already aware that both Ubuntu and Fedora disable Ctrl-Alt-Bksp shortcut. There are hot discussions around that decision. Now, xkeyboard-config is a part of the battlefield. See this bug. At least, when that change is committed, users will...

Re: Goodbye OpenMoko. We Hardly Knew Ye...

Just had a good laugh  I’d just like to take a moment, and lament about all the top notch features we could have had with a truly open source phone like the FreeRunner. * grep’ing through your address book using extended regular expressions * finger’ing your Fav Five * Having 10 different compe...

Re: OSNews Story: ESR Claims GPL No Longer Needed

In the industry I work in I've encountered a good amount of negativity towards the concept of "Free software" and not so much in regards to "Open Source". Many so called "technical people" and lawyers have a major problem with the GPL but none with BSD, LGPL, Apache, Mozilla, etc.. They consider GP...

Re: "I'm Linux" video contest

Glyn Moody, the author of the book Rebel Code, has already expressed his mixed feelings about this: One of the most powerful aspects of free software is that its entire approach and mindset is orthogonal to proprietary software. It's not just better, it's profoundly different. That's one of the most...

"I'm Linux" video contest

If you've been alive and aware of mass media over the last twelve months, you've probably seen television commercials from Apple and Microsoft touting their operating system. From Apple's ubiquitous "I'm a Mac" to Jerry Seinfeld to Microsoft's "I'm a PC" retort, operating system commercials have be...

Re: I have to admit it... Vista makes a nice desktop

Wow, there's nothing you could say to make me want to use Windows. But sounds fantastic. Sounds like 8 years of work for nothing. Because it's still windows. My friend has Vista, it would BSOD every half hour and then it locked him out so that he couldn't use it. He had to pay someone to reinstall ...

Re: Linus takes a jab

If you start using OpenBSD, you will see it's not all about security.
It's also "Free" like in BSD way, "Functional" as in "just works out of the box" and let's not forget "peer review" too that goes with each commit.

P.S. You can follow the commits to the src and ports tree through freshbsd.org

Re: higher bit rate ogg file

I wouldn't think twice. Any device that plays OGG should have enough space for it. As for downloading it there shouldn't be a problem too there. Overall I think the sound quality has been improving. Dann has changed something because I don't hear so much background noise. I used to find that the rec...
