Re: Linus takes a jab

To each his own, I guess. it doesn't process they way I think for some reason. Maybe I need to look into some good books about it. Any suggestions?

Re: Linus takes a jab

Like planting a garden in concrete without a jackhammer. Security is always a balancing act between functionality and protection. They are obsessive about locking down the hatches, and it stifles creativity, iMHO. Administering pf becomes an everyday thing, it's almost creates a condescending tone i...

I've been supporting OpenBSD routers for close to a year and I have to say, I agree.

Re: Text editor with bookmarking facility

I'm pretty sure Vim can save bookmarks between sessions. Doesn't help much if you're not a Vim user already, unless you're willing to spend 30 minutes to learn the basics. I'm sure there's a better solution, but I can't think of it right now. You could use ANY editor and save a tag in the file when...

Re: Speaking of innovation ...

This is too vague of a project. It has a coolness factor to it, but what functional purpose does it have? I'm sure the open source community is secretly working on a holodeck to replace it by the time it all works.

Re: Shuttleworth: "Apple is driving the innovation"

Agreed... it was a little off topic... sorry, buddy. I think that Shuttleworth, being the sponsor of an enormous distribution, has to concern himself with competitive intelligence. Apple is making a moderate dent in Windows with their marketing and if Apple did the same to Ubuntu everytime a little ...

Re: TWIT Linux Haters Audio Clips

After listening to both shows again, I still think that they exhibit sufficiently offensive ignorance to merit criticism. What bothers me about Andy Ihnotko is not so much that he bashes Linux, but that he goes miles out of his way to be a dick about it. I agree. Reasonable people can have a discus...

Good Linux Coverage

Okay, we've got a thread going to track Linux haters that are outside the rank and file of the community. Can we start one for the non community sites that are good? I think Lifehacker.com has decent Linux coverage for a site that one would figure would be mac and windows centric. Anyone else have a...

We will hopefully see some new listeners on this forum and in IRC because of this. Not that they ever had to choose, but it might be cool to invite their listeners over.

Re: TWIT Linux Haters Audio Clips

I agree with a lot of this. Another thing to consider, Andy is an overjoyed cameraman. I've heard him before on This Week in Media. Since when were camera people technologists? I don't value his opinion very much from a technical point of view. Alex Lindsey on the other hand, seems a bit more adept ...

Re: PAT - was that You on "The Techguy" with leo ?

Is the store the best place for them to flock to, considering the stores motivation? I think it would be beneficial to say something like "check out your local lug" or "talk to the technology person in your life" (kinda like the whole "talk to your doctor" method they advertise prescriptions with). ...
