R&D-I-Y (Research & Develop It Yourself) & Open Src Ecology

Hey everyone, The following initiatives could serve as topics to have as interviews on the show. I just found about the R&D-I-Y (Research & Develop It Yourself) web collaboration platform through A garden in my apartment TED talk . It applies open source software development techniques to physical s...

Accelerated laughter is probably the only thing that will remain unnatural how well the signal is processed.

I know that mpg123, and possibly ogg123 have the option of doing time stretch on the command line. You can get their output on stdout and perhaps pipe it to lame to reencode it. Wasn't aware of it, thanks coolfrood. Just tried ogg123 -x 2 <ogg_file> , it maintains the pitch alright, but as it skips...

Podcast Time Shrinking / Stretching?

Hey there everyone :), I've been searching the web but I haven't been able to find a decent app that takes in mp3s or oggs and spits out time shrinked files. Time stretching is altering an audio signal's speed or duration without changing the pitch. MythTV does this for recordings. This would allow ...

Whew, that's a tall order. When I get the chance, I will look around. I think, though, your price cap may be difficult to find a product that will do ogg speex; in fact, I don't think there are a lot of players out there that will play ogg at that price range. Thanks Dann, no need to hunt for it on...

Levelator from Gigavox Media?

Though the linux version of Levelator from Gigavox Media (the guys behind the Conversations Network) hasn't yet been released, have you considered using it for the podcast release? It's software that runs on Windows or OS X (universal binary) that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or othe...

Ogg Speex (.SPX) Portable Audio Players?

Hey there, Anyone know of any portable audio players (flash memory preferred) that can read the ogg speex audio codec format (.spx) ? It's great for voice compression, better then ogg vorbis for 'casts. The plan is to convert my downloaded 'casts before the weekly upload to my device, saving more sp...

Linux & FLOSS discussions: CS/IT student perspectives

Hi everyone, I've been in "beta" for the Information Technology Students' International talkcast for the past month and a half. As Linux and Free/Libre/Open Source Software will be regular topics, there may be CS/IT students or anyone else interested that are also regular Tech Show listeners as myse...
