[Wsuug] Chrome

I don't know. Microsoft has been recruiting fast and furious
for their Google competition, Office Live. I can't imagine
they'll go down that quickly. Too much is at stake.

We should take bets, with a deadline, or something. :)

Avant and Maxthon have been around for a long time and have
no impact.

Besides, more browsers isn't the problem. If they were all
standards compliant (or at least 99%) then there would be no
problem.

On top of that, safari is built on webkit. As far as
rendering goes, you can expect near exact results as safari.
I'm looking forward to a mac version of it, the changes to
the javascript engine (specifically the way it compiles JS
code to machine code from the start, and keeps the js
process separate from the rendering process) have me excited
about it.

I think google will be the blow to knock IE off of it's
pedestal. To a lot of the "average Joe's" out there, google
pretty much -IS- the internet. With a heavy push by google,
I would expect chrome to bypass firefox rather quickly, but
do so mainly on IE switches, and once IE gets down below
50%, developers are going to be more likely to stop focusing
so much on it, and we might have a short spell of "your
browser sucks, upgrade to..." to help us out. There is a
tipping point where IE will tumble, and hopefully a push
like this from google will be the catalyst to get there.

The most painful for me is how customers still want
to use IE 6 and JRE 1.4.2.
