Subject: JUS Volume 3, Issue 4
UPA is happy to announce the 4th issue of volume 3 of the Journal of
Usability Studies ( http://www.upassoc.org/upa_publications/jus/
index.html ).
This is a special issue on usability and complex task situations.
The special issue was edited by Barbara Mirel and Mike Albers with
Whitney
Quesenbery and Ginny Redish as JUS Associate Editors.
The special issue includes an essay on New Frontiers in Usability for
Users' Complex Knowledge Work by Mirel, author of the 2004 book,
Interaction Design for Complex Problem Solving.
In addition, this issue includes three peer-reviewed articles:
-- On creating effective decision aids for complex tasks (a study of
engineering professionals and engineering students)
-- On observing when and why users of a complex application do and don't
switch between tools within the application (not switching even when
another tool would be better for the immediate need)
-- On how important it is to get the scenarios right when trying to
understand complexity (test participants can think they did a fine job
when, in fact, they failed to see the complexity of the task)
