If you've got the time, check out Linux Outlaws podcast 185: http://linuxoutlaws.com/podcast/185. In the bottom half of that podcast, the guys talk a bit about Dan's HTC and CynagenMod. I don't own a smart phone, but this information was most edumacational.

Subject: [Tllts] android advice

As most of you are probably aware, I will be purchasing a long awaited android phone shortly after my verizon contract expires on 4/27. I was wondering what roms you guys recommend. Is cyanogen mod the best? Best as I can tell, the HTC phones seem more rom friendly. I am leaning towards the droid incredible 2 (I am not convinced I need to get a 4g phone at this time) when it becomes available. The motorola phones (except the original droid) all seem to have locked boot loaders, and as such aren't able to have the kernels replaced, but some mods (liberty) can be run on them. .
