[Tllts] screen recording

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a screen recording to create some tutorials. I
tried ffmpeg, RecordItNow and XvidCap on Kubuntu 10.10. All of them
record at a pretty low rate (10 fps) and skip frames or flicker. With
some codecs I can get the frame rate up, but the quality is very, very poor.
I even tried CamStudio on Windows, but I have the same problems.
The biggest problem is that on playback the speed increases, making the
recording unusable.
If I could slow down the playback it could make the recordings usable.
I'd like to create an XviD of 800x600 pixel using 25 fps.
The recording I want to make is the installation and configuration of
EasyPeasy (Ubuntu Netbook Remix variant) in a virtual machine. I'd like
to do this using a region or window capture.
Anybody got some good advise on how to create good screen recordings or
on how to reencode video with a different playback speed?
I do have access to proprietary software, but I'd like to avoid using it.
My machine is a Dell Latitude E6500 with nVidea graphics and 4GB of RAM.
Thanks.
Bert
