The Whitehall Library is replacing some computers and has offered the
old ones for sale to us for $20 including a mouse, keyboard and 15
inch monitor. I was told that they are Dell Optiplex PII's and
PIII's. AFAIK there are 5 left. I picked up two Tuesday night after
the meeting. Turns out they were PII 350's with 128MB (only 2
sockets with a 64MB SIMM in each) of ram, 6GB harddrive, CD reader,
floppy, sound, and NIC
I tried a Mandriva One live CD in one of them and it worked fine.
Loaded Xandros v3 into the other and it seems to be working fine
also.
Here's a cheap way for some of you to acquire an inexpensive computer
with which to explore Linux. Wouldn't hurt to add a bit more ram if
you have some lying around.
If you are interested please contact the Whitehall Library directly.
The number is 610-432-4339, ask for Jim.
