Had trouble snipping, might have snipped too much, but...
I may have confused things on two points:
* First, Jeff has a good point, if you use dd you won't have to mount the
hard drive
* but, if you go to mount the drive, the command is "mount"--my use of
"mnt" above is as a directory name--Mandriva, and, iirc, many modern Linux
distros create a /mnt directory with mountpoints (i.e., empty directories)
for common removable or temporary media
(like /mnt/floppy, /mnt/cdrom, /mnt/win_d, etc.)--thus, you don't have to
create those directories yourself. If I need additional mount points, it is
now my habit to make most of them under /mnt. (NFS mounts on my network are
an exception, I create mountpoints that start in a directory using the system
(host/computer) "name", e.g., /sys12/home/rhk, etc.
