Replying on list for the benefit of others who may have the same question (and
cross posting to the sig as well)>

This (posting above the original text of the message) is top posting and makes
it a little harder (ususally) to understand a reply in the proper context,
and is often frowned upon (in the computer/geek email world).

This is not top posting--here I am (or presumably would be) responding
directly to a point you made, specifically the one quoted above.

Aside: It is also good form to snip/trim the previous email as much as
possible, just include enough of the previous email to remind the reader of
the point to which you are responding. (Someone who hasn't been reading the
thread might or might not have to go back to an earlier post to pick up the
full context.)

2nd Aside: Don't be embarrassed to ask any question--I'm sure there are others
on the list who could benefit from this explanation. (And responding to the
list hopefully cuts down the number of times someone has to respond to any
particular question.)

3rd Aside: I presume you're asking this question in response to something I
wrote. If you had quoted (appropriately snipped) a portion of what I wrote,
and if this answer is somewhat off point, might have responded more closely
on point.

Randy Kramer
