Welcome aboard!  I picked up a 770 when they first came out, and did a  
little hacking with the early python releases and made a blog posting  
about it that you can find here: http://www.webninja.com/2006/02/04/nokia-770-development-and-how-cool-is-python/

It's not much, and I don't know if the API has changed since then, but  
it at least gives you a starting point for using Python on the  
N770/800/810.
