Yes, very bad.
The voltage rating of the "external" capacitor is concealed.
If that "external" capacitor is rated at, say, 200 volts, that 35 volt
"internal" capacitor will go boom when the circuit is energized.
It won't go pop, it will go boom, like an M-80. Been there, heard that,
in tech. school.
Thanks Mr. Smith for showing us the danger, sorry the fire department
was called after we rigged your lab, for the class that followed us,
after your demonstration.
P.S. Nobody was hurt, and there wasn't any property damage, except to
the capacitors, and the 120 volt outlet they were plugged into.
P.P.S. My knowledge of this is all second hand, "I was in the bathroom"
at the time it was planned and executed.
