You should me using rug.
As root, try "rug sl"
you should have some sources for updates. If you do, run 
"rug up" to update the system. If you have gnome/kde 
running there should be an applet to to this. you may need 
to configure a source then run it. If you haven't run it 
for a time, there can be quite a delay checking 
dependencies for all your updates. I am not sure of the 
source url. look at 
http://download.opensuse.org/update/suse/10.1   or 
something like that....
