True, although I never connect the camera directly to the computer  
anyway. I find it's much easier to use a card reader than to futz  
around with USB cables every time I need to transfer photos. And I  
don't use the bundled software either, so I don't even know what that  
side of things is really like.

Linux support seems tough to come by. Are Nikon, Olympus, or Sony any  
better? Apart from implementing USB mass storage, is there any other  
compatibility issue? I'd be interested to hear who's really doing  
well, and maybe try to pass the word along.

I use almost nothing but Photoshop, and I haven't found anything  
comparable in the FOSS world. So realistically, Linux can't be the  
core of my photo workflow. That might be the "root cause" of a lack  
of Linux support from the rest of the industry.
