[Lvlug] Partition issue

I don't know if anyone here can help me but I thought I would ask.  I 
was running Fedora Core 4 on an 80Gb Hard drive till the EIDE controller 
on the motherboard went bad and  messed up the partition information on 
the drive.  I boot with Knoppix and I can see the Drive I just can't 
access it.  It looks like one of the partitions is still there but the 
other is just a large hunk of Drive space with out a file system.  I am 
trying to use Gpart to recover but it just stays at "Beginning Scan" and 
it has sat like this for over 8 hours.  My main question is does it 
normally take Gpart 8 hours + to scan a 80 Gb Hard drive or is something 
wrong and if it is the latter is there any other way to recover the drive?
