Yes.
The quality is as good or almost as good as a normal pots connection,
the price is $10 a month for unlimited in state calling and only 3.9
cents/min for out of state, and the gadgets are wickedly cool. Aside
from easilly running a software phone client, I also got a VOIP Systems
MTA-102 2-line sip adapter from a friend for only $35. This allows me
to hook 2 regular telephones to my asterisk box each on their own
extensions, not including any extensions I have set up for software
clients. So now I have a full PBX system in my house with different
extensions for different phones, extension to extension calling, voice
mail boxes for each (if I like), inbound and outbound VOIP phone
service, wake up calls, local weather reports, music on hold, call
transfering, and a myriad of other nifty things I have only begun to
explore!
Looking around on people's websites I see people doing things like
having a door phone which rings only internal home extensions and is
wired to electronic door latches, extensions that forward to other
peoples asterisk systems, etc, etc.. Like I said, this is pretty cool.
