You might want to investigate LyX or the lesser known TeXmacs. TeXmacs
is nice because, althoygh it has roughe edges, it can be extended with
guile, which is GNU's pretty decent Scheme implementation.
I've been using it with M-x run-scheme because I haven't figured out
debugging with SLIB; moreover Scheme48's been acting strange with SLIB
for whatever reason. I still like it though...
