Terminal.app doesn't require X11 to be running.
Terminal.app can be used to "open servers" instead of local terminals,
using telnet, ssh, etc.
Terminal.app is a Cocoa application so:
Terminal.app is scriptable.
Terminal.app uses Quartz for rendering.
Terminal.app is much faster.
Terminal.app uses default Mac behavior for drag-and-drop.
Other things that eterm can probably do:
Terminal.app supports just about every terminal encoding, and is UTF-8
by default.
Terminal.app, via Quartz, does true transparency (including
transparent background images) and anti-aliasing.
