I can't tell you what M$ is doing with the print drivers but I can tell y=

that it does effect more than just printing.  When I'd give a Micro$oft
Official Class complete with PowerPoint presentation, the slides would pr=
oject
just fine until we added a Generic/Text Only print driver.  Then, magical=
ly,
switching back to the PPT show and all the text in all the slides was now=
 in 8
pt. courier font!  The first time you experience this you just stand ther=
e and
scratch your head going "Now what did I do wrong?".  Turns out that the P=
PT
display is somehow linked to the fonts available for the printer.  Go fig=
ure.
