Not needed!
Modern distros will configure an IDE CD/RW as a
pseudo-SCSI for cdrecord. 
You might try looking this up at the Red Hat Hardware
compatability list. Ther may be some Gotchas with the
combo drive. I certainly think that a straight DVD
drive and a straight CDRW should work fine.
