I hear what you're saying, but if two copies have the same md5sum, I
haven't dropped any bits between them.  

Oh, wait, maybe that's not totally true -- is there some error
correction built into a data CD format, such that a few bits of error
might be corrected before the bytes get to the md5sum program?

I forget (or never thoroughly knew ;-) -- is there error correction
built into the audio CD format, the digital CD format, or both?   And,
does it depend on things like the specific format -- Joliet or ISO 9660
or ???
