Dann moved to "the roll your own" distro cause he got sick of the faulty
compilier in the "corporate distro." Yes, dann likes to create packages
from apps he compiles himself merely because it saves time when going to
his other systems. And, since dann created the package himself, he feels
more intimately connected to it.

Dann also realizes that there are a number of people who like the
simplicity and speed that follow hand-in-hand with the "roll your own
distro," that do not necessarily want, or have the time to compile all
that neat software. So, dann contributes to the cause by offering his
packages for the good of the community. Besides, some of those packages
are a real pain in the ass to get compiled to begin with. Unless one
finds compiling and debugging fun and exciting, he or she may prefer
someone else do it.

Dann recalls the good old days of compiling X and the entire gnome and kde
suites for his systems. Having passed that stage, he realizes the
benefits of packages, but still enjoys rolling his own most of the time.--
