[Lvlug] Mandrake update

I now have all the 3 cd's for the PC. I am in the process of burning
Mandrake 8.1 for the PPC, since I don't want to exclude anyone at the LVCG
event. I doubt we have to be concerned with any other type of computer (do
LVCG users have Sparcs, alphas, DECs?)

Last night I played around with printing. I think I posted that I printed
from abiword, Mozilla, and the gimp. But if I didn't. I initially
configured the box for a 990C HP, but I have a 930c. This was easily
changed through drakconf.

Later I went back in to see if Drakeconf supported usb printers. Drakeconf
froze the damn machine.

Anyway, if I get around to it tonight, I'm going to try and setup the
scanner and install sane.

I figure, for a quick demo, it would be enough to run the install and setup
both the printer and modem during this process. Show how easy it is to
connect to the internet and print something out. Then manually install
sane, again to show that software install is not such a bear, and configure
the scanner (which may require a bit more than simple point and click
config). I'll scan an image it, show how it can be manipulated with the
gimp, and print it out. All this should take about 45 minutes. I figure we
could put a break in when the software is being loaded and people can check
out what other machines are available.

It was suggested that we might want to show how easy it is to design and
upload a webpage to a server. Should we do this? Or does anyone have any
other suggestions.

Finally, I do believe we are planning to give out discs, yes? I figure it
should be copies of mandrake, since that is what we are demoing to begin
with and it is damn easy to install. I have the 3 8.1 discs and 2 8.1 PPC
discs I can burn copies of. I can chip in about 10 copies, which would be
50 discs. Come to think of it, this can get a bit expensive. How do we
propose doing this? I doubt we can get "perk" copies from Mandrake on such
short notice.
