I've been trying to get a handle on this licensing issue with the registration code, but everyone I spoke with is still unsure what MS lincensing requires. At the school here, we are ordering about 360 dells this summer and are looking into the image plan they have so that we can get systems shipped with a custom image.

Right now this is not an issue, since we are using Win98 and Office 2000. Since XP is coming out in another month or so, I don't expect it too far in the future till the trickle down effect forces us into an office upgrade like 2000 did. I have been inquiring on how this license will work with creating system images, but no one has an answer. I cannot see companies accepting, without much hemming and hawing, that they must install office or windows on each individual machine then register that machine. That would be an administrative nightmare.

I spoke with two dell representatives, but they did not have an answer yet. Apparently there is a meeting regarding this issue in the next few weeks.

Real positive to this:

On reinstall apparently MS will require all the
original installation information and only allows
3 reinstalls without upgrade or purchase of product!

This sounds like another great MS victory. No more
pirated software - install Linux instead
