[Lvlug] Apache Toolbox revisted

I fired up apache toolbox for the first time tonite and here are my
thoughts. I did have issues. There were a lot of choices to make in the
beginning and I grabbed all the options I could: SSL, Jakarta, GD, php,
mysql, you name it, I tried to compile it in. Well, the first run through
GD puked because it said the file was corrupt. This means you have to
start all over again (which is not so bad since your config is retained
and you just have to uncheck that item).

Well, you have to keep doing this for each successive puke. Needless to
say, there were a few things: mysql, mod_mp3, mod_samba_auth, and some
others. I was not too concerned about these. I did get jakarta, the
sdk2, php, and a sleu of php modules, compiled right into apache. The
entire process took about four hours. I was in and out of the room
though. I ended up compiling mysql from the sources myself. I believe
the script did not create the proper script to startup mysql.

I read that the toolbox will search your system for apps before intalling
from the sources. Well, I believe it looks for rpm's, since it intalled a
bunch of apps and libs I already had after it said it could not find the
rpm's. No big deal. It was an experience. I will probably use it again
and not be so greedy with stuff I can always add in later when I learn how
to use it.
