Okay, I thought you could not have an external
winmodem.

Now the modem in question is a Zoom Fax external 56k
modem. I bought a Zoomfax external about two years
ago and it works great. I consistently get a
connection of 44-50 kbs. My father uses an internal
Zoomfax and received the same connection range. We
both use Fastnet. I have noticed that people using
Enternet and a modem with a Lucent chipset will have
difficulty getting a connection above 33.6 kbs. Even
with some tweaking, the connection speed will not
report above 33.6 kbs. I have been told that this is
probably a compatibility issue between Enternet's
hardware and the modem. I will have to double check
the chipset on my external modem, but I do not think
it is a Lucent chipset. When connecting to Enternet,
I have been able to get 44+kbs connections without any
tweaking.
